For Anyone Over 40

Anti-aging research is at the forefront of medical science.

For a millennia our species has been looking for a cure to aging. While animals just try to stay alive, people are always interested in what they can do to live longer.

Anti-aging is sometimes viewed with an eye of skepticism. People don’t really believe it’s possible to live longer. Even though there are some researchers who believe we may be able to stop aging and even reverse it.

I’m not so convinced we’re going to be able to stop aging, much less reverse it. I’m open to being corrected by new scientific achievements on this front, however.

On the other hand, I believe there’s quite a bit we can do right now to help fight the effects of aging.

Changing our diet is one thing we can do.

Increasing how much we exercise is another.

Engaging in activities known to alter brain activity is also something we can do.

Truth be told, there are a myriad of ways to help fight aging, and I’d like to focus on one that I think most people should try.

What Most People Don’t Consider about Anti Aging

There’s no shortage of people interested in fighting the effects of aging.

And yet, what many of them don’t consider, is living longer may be one thing…

But living longer and remaining healthy is another thing altogether.

The truth is, medical advances from the past century have helped extend our life spans decades longer than what they were 200 years ago.

Yes, people are living longer than they used to, but not everyone who’s making it into their golden years actually enjoys their extended life. As time marches on it eventually challenges our body’s ability to perform as it once did. 

Hormonal deficiencies can cause that, and so can years of exposure to potentially harmful free radicals/toxins and pollutants.

Which means that even though people live longer, their bodies have been ravaged. Thus living longer is actually far less enjoyable than it could be.

Which is why if you want to fight the negative effects of aging, one of the best things you can do right now is support various systems in your body to maintain health.

At the elemental level the best way to fight aging is to keep your endocrine system healthy. Your endocrine system controls hormone function. And hormones are the chemical messengers which help keep things like your metabolism, brain activity, reproductive system, sleep cycles, tissue function and more operating as designed.
Over time aging results in decline in hormone production.

Hormone levels decreasing is 100% natural. But natural or not, it doesn’t mean you have to settle with declining endocrine function.

Instead, you can supply your body with the nutrients it needs to improve hormone-levels back to the healthy range.

Two of the best nutrients for the job are simple nutrients found naturally within our diet.

They are L-arginine and L-ornithine.

Both of these nutrients are amino acids, which are the fundamental elements needed to build proteins which your body uses to make hormones.

Research supports the use of these two nutrients as one of the best ways to help fight aging and enjoy the life in your days more than you may imagine.    

2 Nutrients Most People Don’t Know Well Could be the Key to An Amazing Life 

Ask the average American if they’ve heard of L-arginine or L-ornithine and they’ll tell you no.

The ones who say “yes” are probably big into body building.

Bodybuilders are familiar with these nutrients because they use them frequently to build muscle.

Even though these amino acids are favorites in the world of athletics doesn’t mean you shouldn’t consider getting more of them in your diet.

Here’s why. 

Studies on L-ornithine show it has a tremendous effect on the release of human growth hormone (HGH). Human growth hormone is kind of like a master hormone that keeps our bodies trim and healthy.

HGH is especially important in promoting lean body mass. And the more lean you are (i.e. the less fat you have and the more muscle you have) the healthier you are. 

When you’re in your teens and 20s, the amount of HGH flowing through your body is at the highest level it’ll ever be. As we grow older the surge of HGH production begins to fall. After the age of 25, the levels fall by 50% every 7 years.

The older we get, the less HGH we produce and lean body percentages decline too.

To really feel good you want to keep HGH levels as high as you physically can.

The same thing is true for your general health.

The higher your HGH levels are, the more lean body mass you should have and the better your body will function.

And researchers regard L-ornithine and L-arginine as two of the best nutrients for influencing positive increases in HGH. This is why bodybuilders use them and why I believe they’re helpful in the fight against aging.

Researchers writing an article for the journal Nutrition said this as far back as 2002. “Specific amino acids, such as arginine, lysine and ornithine, can stimulate growth hormone (GH) release when infused intravenously or administered orally.”

And researchers published an article on how L-arginine helped with lean body mass. Writing for the Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness, the researchers gave 22 men L-arginine and L-ornithine orally for 5 weeks to see how it would change their physical appearance and lean body mass.

Compared to a placebo, the L-arginine and L-ornithine helped enhance lean body mass. I should note, they were also testing to see how these nutrients would affect strength, so this study was done in conjunction with resistance training.

And the Journal of Advanced Research also studied L-arginine to see how it would help promote better health.

In the conclusion of their study they wrote the following:

“To summarise some of its effects; l-arginine is involved in the production of a variety of enzymes, hormones, and structural proteins. It facilitates the release of growth hormone, insulin, glucagon, and prolactin.

It is a component of the hormone vasopressin, produced by the pituitary gland.

It is the physiological precursor of diverse biological compounds such as nitric oxide, polyamines, proline, glutamate, creatine, agmatine and urea. 

As a booster of immunity, arginine stimulates the thymus and promotes lymphocyte production...

Arginine has a positive effect on cerebral as well as systemic circulation. It enhances sexual performance in males...

The demonstrated anti-aging benefits of l-arginine show promises greater than any pharmaceutical or nutraceutical agent ever previously discovered.”

And what about L-ornithine?

Dr. Todd Oovokaitys, M.D. a leading expert on aging said this about how L-ornithine helps fight aging:

L-Ornithine is the most potent amino acid ever studied for stimulating the production and release of Human Growth Hormone from the pituitary gland. HGH is a powerful rejuvenator - its use has the potential to reverse aging by up to 10 to 20 years. Studies of L-Ornithine have shown the ability to regenerate the thymus gland, liver, and heart tissue, enhance muscle growth, and increase immune system function.”

Warning on Getting L-ornithine and L-arginine From Diet 

Typically I recommend getting amino acids like this directly from diet.

However, if you’re looking to use these two nutrients for anti-aging I think supplementing is better.

Here’s why.

Because you’ll find dietary sources of L-arginine and L-ornithine in protein, and you’ll need to eat a substantial amount of protein to get adequate intake, I don’t recommend dietary sources.

As I wrote in an article about the dangers of protein too much protein promotes mTOR which can be problematic in the future.

Instead I recommend consuming it directly so you can bypass eating too much protein.
