Your Brain (Interesting Fact)

Your Brain (Interesting Fact)

Your brain is easily the most important organ in your body.

While every other organ in your body is essential, thanks to technologies in modern medicine we’ve figured out ways to keep people alive and living happy lives if those organs fail.

If on the other hand, your brain were damaged severely there’s not much the medical community can do to restore your health.

This is why I fight so hard to help keep my patient’s brains as healthy as possible.

When it comes to keeping the brain in top shape, I’ve got an arsenal of activities and nutrients I recommend.

One of the ones I recommend most, happens to be one of the first supplements my team and I ever created.

Pregnenolone.

Pregnenolone is a hormone that works in the body to regulate the production and release of many other hormones. This is why it’s called the body’s “mother hormone.” From pregnenolone, your body makes dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), testosterone, progesterone, estrogen, and cortisol.

And while the production of those hormones is one of the critical roles pregnenolone plays...another of the main functions of pregnenolone is the role it plays in a healthy brain.

In all of the research I’ve seen, to keep your brain firing on all cylinders, to experience memory recall and sharp thinking, maintaining healthy pregnenolone levels is key.

Why Pregnenolone Is So Important For Superior Brain Power

As we age, our bodies continue to produce pregnenolone. However, aging bodies make less and less pregnenolone over time.

At age 80 your body may produce 75% less pregnenolone than it did at age 25.

And while lower levels of pregnenolone at 80 are considered normal and healthy, I wouldn’t say it’s desirable.

I’ve discovered that by supplementing with pregnenolone you can elevate pregnenolone levels to above the normal limit. In the process of increasing pregnenolone levels you can improve the function of your brain.

The way it works is incredible.

For your brain to make a memory and to function properly in the first place channels in your brain called NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) channels must be activated.  Research indicates pregnenolone is one of the main things that triggers NMDA to fully activate.

What’s important about this process is pregnenolone triggers the activation of NMDA channels independent of something known as glutamate. Glutamate is also important for memory formation, but too much of it can actually damage sensitive dendrites and neurons.

Because pregnenolone will stimulate NMDA without glutamate it doesn’t just help with memory formation and cognitive ability....

It also lends credence to pregnenolone helping to extend your brain's normal function in the future.

Life Extension writes: “The bottom line of all this intricate science is that pregnenolone may play a pivotal role both in laying down memories in the first place, and then preventing their loss by directly protecting the nerve networks that store them!”

Want To Keep Your Brain In Tip Top Shape?

If you want to keep your brain in tip top shape I highly recommend pregnenolone.

Check out what one of the leading integrative journals in the world says about pregnenolone.

“Pregnenolone is a steroid hormone that is directly produced by the brain as well, that is why it is defined as a neurosteroid (a steroid for brain function).

Pregnenolone carries out several cerebral functions, such as neuroprotection, neuroplasticity and neurogenesis; moreover, it regulates the mood and the memory.

All of these functions are possible thanks to the relationships pregnenolone establishes with some of the most important neurotransmitters. As a matter of fact, it connects to GABA receptors, NMDA receptors and sigma-1 receptors.”

While you have pregnenolone in your body it means many of the vital functions of the brain continue unimpeded.

As pregnenolone swirls through your brain it nurtures your neurons, synapses and dendrites, (which are all parts of your brain that are essential for function) as well as protects them.

In addition to that (as well as triggering NMDA) pregnenolone excites your brain and encourages the release of dopamine, the neurotransmitter involved in focus and often inhibited in times of high stress.

        Some Considerations about Pregnenolone Supplementation

While I strongly believe taking pregnenolone past the age of 45 is helpful for keeping your brain functioning healthily, pregnenolone supplementation should be undertaken with some care.

Because pregnenolone promotes the manufacture of sex hormones like testosterone, progesterone and estrogen, taking too much could result in an imbalance in those hormones.

This isn’t ideal. See my article on estrogen dominance to see why too much of an essential hormone could lead to issues.

Another thing to consider is too much pregnenolone could predispose someone with anxiety to be a bit too anxious.

A release of high levels of dopamine could trigger excitability in the brain and lead to anxiousness.

Lastly, too much pregnenolone could cause the release of too much cortisol. Elevated cortisol levels are associated with adrenal fatigue and other complications which is why you need to stay on top of how much you take.

For that reason I recommend periodic pregnenolone level testing. Getting your blood levels of pregnenolone tested will help to ensure you’re in the sweet spot while you’re supplementing.

Some people need to take pregnenolone every day to maintain optimal levels, others can get away with just once every other day.

Make Sure to Get the Right Kind Of Pregnenolone

To effectively supplement with pregnenolone I recommend getting micronized pregnenolone.

That’s because it’s more bioavailable and has the strongest effect on existing pregnenolone levels.

We’ve shown this is true through extensive testing in our clinic.

It’s also why we decided to shy away from promoting other, non-micronized pregnenolone and made our own.

When patients take it and come back to get their blood levels tested we’ve found our pregnenolone does a better job of improving pregnenolone levels than any other brand we’ve worked with.

If you’d like to get some from our online store click here.

We’re running low on this at the moment so I recommend getting yours now before we sell out.
